“Family is a fundamental institution of the society”; through which human life blooms “says eminent sociologist M.N. Srinivas. When a family is happy and healthy, certainly it will be a role model to others. Life style of people is keep on changing; Human value is diminishing day by day. Also the level of love and understanding among the family members is also decreasing. This is indeed a great threat to our family set up. In order to nurture family relationship, MACT has established a “family counseling centre”. This is being headed by a trained counsellor.
The main purpose of this centre is to offer counselling to married women, adult youth, husband-wife and elderly people; Dealing with domestic problems, violence on women, dowry problems, pre-marital counselling and strengthening husband-wife relationship, parent-child relationship, understanding and treating the elderly persons with respect are some of the regular activities of this centre. Case records of each person seeking counselling services is well maintained. House visiting is also undertaken by the counsellor to have proper follow up of the cases reported to family counselling centre.
Self awareness meetings for women, adult youth and arbitration between husband-wife are also arranged through this centre. Thus this family counseling centre is functioning as a “channel” for the enrichment of families in our target area.
